ILWU Canada issued 72-hour strike notice at 8:00am today (June 28, 2023) to BCMEA. The port workers are prepared to start striking at 8:00am on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

The union represents 7,400 port and terminal workers in B.C. The strike notice was issued after talks with BCMEA hit an impasse yesterday. This move comes one day after the BCMEA sent an update saying that bargaining committees had met all of last week and through the weekend, and expected bargaining to continue with the help of Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service officials next week.
