Zim Expands Asia-US East Coast Service

Zim is adding larger ships to their Southeast Asia to US East Coast expedited ocean service next month. Zim’s eCommerce Baltimore Express (ZXB) started as a fortnightly service last year, but will now become a weekly service by the end of February. This comes as Asian imports to the US East Coast in 2022 have seen modest gains, up 6.2% from 2021.

Last year, 10 vessels with 3,000 to 4,000 TEU capacity were part of the ZXB. The most recent ZXB schedule shows 16 vessels with the addition of some 6,000 TEU ships. There are plans to eventually use 8,000 TEU ships. This change comes as the Port of Baltimore, the service’s first US destination, adds intermodal capacity which will increase the port’s ability to reach US Midwest markets.
