The Georgia Port Authority (GPA) discontinued its evening truck hours at the Port of Savannah in February as a result of reduced utilization of evening gate hours as well as decline in volumes. GPA also closed several temporary inland storage yards.
The GPA started extended truck gate hours in 2021 until 9pm to help clear the backlog of 30+ vessels anchored at the port. In 2022, they also started opening the gate earlier in the morning. Now the Port of Savannah’s gates are operating from 4am – 6pm during the week and from 8am – 5pm on Saturday.
The Port of Savannah reported container traffic of 395,000 TEU in February, which was down from 460,400 TEU in February 2022. But GPA’s overall share of the US container market increased by 0.7%.
