June 13 – Etobicoke, ON. During a press briefing at the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA), Federal Government and industry officials introduced the electronic logging device (ELD) rule requiring third party certification. In comparison, US ELD devices are self-certified, which means ELDs can be potentially modified or tampered with.
By June 2021, third-party-certified ELDs will have to be used by all truck drivers currently required to maintain a logbook.
The benefit to the trucking industry is enhanced safety on the road and to ensure that all drivers and companies hold themselves to the highest levels of compliance
