CN Unifor Local 100 and Unifor Council 4000 represents roughly 3600 clerical, mechanical, intermodal, and facility management employees, and they have voted in favour of strike action as early as March 21, 2023.
Deals with the unions expired at the end of 2022, and both sides have had five bargaining sessions since October 2022. The main issue is CN Rail’s decisions to change the age for early retirement from 55 with 30 minimum years of experience, to 65 by the end of the year.
Both sides are meeting this week to attempt to get a new deal and prevent a possible walkout. CN has said that it doesn’t expect any labour action to impact its operations.
