Exporting for the Aerospace Industry

When you ship with Canaan Group, we will first sit down with you to understand your product and what your shipping needs are. We will want to know about your production process, bottlenecks, constraints, potential risks, and expectations. We will discuss with you the value of your goods and make sure you have appropriate insurance. We will find out where your suppliers are located and determine what the best logistical schedule would be to consolidate your products for shipment.

Methods of Shipment

There are three main ways of transporting electronics: ocean, air, and trucking. From the manufacturing facility, the products are trucked to a transloading facility to be loaded into a container, or trucked to the airport to be loaded onto an aircraft. Ocean transport can either be via full containers or less than container load (LCL). Time-sensitive or high-value shipments are usually shipped by air. If environmental control is needed for any cargo, Canaan Group can provide reefer and insulated solutions, all custom designed to suit the product needs.

The aerospace industry sometimes requires high cost, heavy, complex-shaped parts that can be extremely fragile or easily incur damage. That’s why good planning and communication is necessary, to ensure that anyone handling the product is aware of how to handle the products properly, whether it’s airplane parts, batteries, electronics, batteries, in-flight entertainment systems, windshields, or avionics equipment.

Inspection, Verification, and Certification

If there is a need, our team can help with the inspection, verification, and certification process. Inspections may be needed prior to shipping, to make sure certain protocol is followed.

Verification may be needed to make sure parts are sent in priority sequence and have followed a specific route. Specific aerospace agencies do not allow their parts to land or go through specific countries, and all this needs to be verified and confirmed before anything is shipped. Also, certain parts are sensitive to shock and humidity, so verification is needed to make sure that the shock and humidity levels stayed within certain parameters. We have specific equipment that measures this.

Depending on the origin and destination, specific certification may also be needed. We work closely with our overseas offices to make sure the shipment is not delayed because of paperwork issues and that our clients avoid paying unnecessary taxes.

Returning Products

Whether parts were defective, damaged during transport, or the wrong part, we will help you navigate the protocol required for each supplier.

To facilitate communication between supplier, receiver, and Canaan Group, we can set up either an electronic data interchange (EDI) or an application programming interface (API). We will work with you to ensure you have the appropriate original documents, get the customs consultations you need, check that taxes are minimized and not duplicated, and coordinate with overseas offices about which parts need to be returned.
